History

The Scarsdale Strings Music School was founded by Anna Stampfli to bring quality group and private instruction to pre-school, elementary and middle school children within the greater Westchester, Greenwich and New York City areas. Scarsdale Strings offers instruction in violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar, ukelele, percussion, keyboard, piano, voice, woodwinds and brass in addition to specialized instruction in music composition, rock band and classical ensemble performance. Scarsdale Strings maintains a large inventory of quality instruments and offers sales, rental and repair service.

Scarsdale Strings instructors are classically trained musicians who specialize in making instrument instruction informative and fun. They include graduates from such schools as the Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music and the Conservatory of Music at SUNY Purchase and have won a number of prestigious awards including the Artist International New York Carnegie Hall Debut Award, the Abraham Katz Memorial Award and the Virginia Commonwwealth University Undergraduate Award for Excellence in Music.

The Scarsdale Strings music program is a proven and effective method of classical instrument education. Its instructors are certified and trained in a variety of music instruction techniques, including the Suzuki method and the Kodaly method. They share a core value of excellence in service and teaching through positive feedback.

Our Founder

Anna Stampfli is the founder and CEO of the Scarsdale Strings Music School. A violinist for over 40 years and a career educator, she founded Scarsdale Strings on the premise that the study of music is an integral part of educating the whole child and above all should be fun. “Enjoying life through music” is both her own and her school’s motto.

Ms. Stampfli holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics with a Biology Minor from The State University of New York at Purchase. In addition she earned a Master of Arts degree from Columbia University and an administrative leadership certificate from Pace University. She is a licensed School District Administrator and has her New York State Permanent Certification in Mathematics for grades 7-12. Ms. Stampfli is also a New York City tenured teacher and taught Junior High School and Day High School Mathematics for over ten years.

Ms. Stampfli has successfully combined her passion for music and her enthusiasm for music education. As Director of the Scarsdale Strings Music School, Anna Stampfli is committed to providing her students with the highest quality instruction, instruments and service.
